The mission of AzSAM, is parallel to the mission of ASAM:

Increase access to, and improve the quality of addiction treatment;

Educate physicians (including medical and osteopathic students), other healthcare providers, and the public;

Support research and prevention;

Promote the appropriate role of the physician in the care of patients with addictive disorders;

Establish addiction medicine as a primary specialty recognized by professional organizations, governments, physicians, purchasers and consumers of healthcare services, and the general public.

AzSAM plans to have several informal dinner meetings per year. Most, if
not all, of these will not be qualified as CME credit meetings. We plan to
have at least one annual conference, which will be CME qualified, such as
the Fall Conference.

FALL CONFERENCE:

Our 2008, Fall Educational Conference was held 26 & September 27, 2008 at Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.  Next year's conference plans are well on their way so check back for details.

We also welcome others in the health care field to attend our educational
meetings, including:

  • nurses
  • pharmacists
  • medical students
  • counselors
  • psychologists
  • administrators and policy makers
  • teachers and instructors

  Together, we really can make a difference--but you will need to show up to make it happen.

Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program

The Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program (CSPMP) is a program developed to promote the public health and welfare by detecting diversion, abuse, and misuse of prescription medications classified as controlled substances under the Arizona Uniform Controlled Substances Act. To learn more about Arizona's Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program, visit About CSPMP.

All doctors interested in accessing the database first need to be registered and then need to request access to the database.

Most physicians are currently in the process of being registered automatically and you should received a certificate by December 5th, 2008.  If you do not receive a certificate you can register online.
